$850,000 (and still counting) was raised, including $200,000 for immediate use by the Knights of Malta Hospital Sacre Coeur in Haiti. Other funds were raised for numerous ongoing Malta Knights activities benefitting the poor, hungry and sick, including the Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center for long term care on 5th Avenue, prison ministries, food pantries, clothing drives and other good works throughout the United States and abroad. In particular, the generosity of Janet and JJ Cafaro was acknowledged.
"Our 70 bed Hospital Sacre Coeur in Haiti is overwhelmed,” said Hyland, adding that it is “now encompassing nearby schools, open yards and tents with dozens of our doctors and nurses assisting in a massive human saga of suffering, tragedy and hope." |
